44 Cats

When Prima Toys contacted me with regards to reviewing a new range of toys based on the hit TV show for kids, 44 Cats, I jumped on the opportunity. Why? Because we are a cat-loving family! Anything to do with this purring four-pawed balls of fur and the Wrights are in!

Have you heard of 44 Cats? This exciting series follows the lives of four musically talented kittens who have a band called the Buffycats.

The main characters are Lampo, Milady, Pilou and Polpetta who get taken in by Granny Pina. The cats form a band and meet 40 other cats.

I like the message behind this series. Unlike similar shows geared at pre-schoolers that have a dark, underlying element to them - like villains who create chaos - this show sends a warm, furry-wrapped message about friendliness, kindness, a feeling of community and generosity.

Prima Toys recently launched a new toy range for the hit TV show. These toys are available in store at Toy Kingdom and Toyzone.

There are four different toys available in the 44 Cats range.

Plush Toy with Music R369,90*

When you push the toy's tummy, the theme song plays. This cuddly little cat is the perfect bedtime companion. Nunu carries his with him everywhere!

Articulated figure with accessories R199,90*

Nunu absolutely loves playing with little figurines. With this price, it is a little easier on the pocket than the other toys and can be used for imaginative play and integrated with other figurine games. The accessories add a nice personal touch to each cat's persona. However, I found the accessories do not always fit in the cat's hand and the sunglasses do not attach tightly to the cat's head which can be a real exercise of patience with a three year old.

Deluxe Playset with features R369,90*

These are definitely the most fun of the range! This set comes with a figure and their little play house! Nunu absolutely loves playing 'house house' so this was really a highlight for him. Each cat comes with their own sleeping spot.

Unfortunately we found the Pilou Drum Room to be quite unstable and often falls over while Nunu plays with it.

The other playset received was the Milady Empty TV and Barrel Room which is a better design. Nunu loves putting Milady in her spot to sleep. The set also came with a bowl of food.

Figure and vehicle R489,90*

The figure and vehicle set is definitely one of the more pricier items in the range.

Nunu was very excited to open the motorcycle, but we were disappointed to find that the cat does not actually clip onto the motorbike. This left us feeling a bit frustrated as surely the figure and vehicle, if sold together, should be compatible? We used good old Prestik to secure Lampou to the bike.

We absolutely loved Cosmo with his trolley and space capsule. Nunu loved hiding Cosmo in his space capsule and pulling the cats around in the trolley.

*recommended retail price

The videos I took do not do Nunu's excitement justice. The shouts of joy as he opened the box sent to us rivaled Christmas morning in our house last year. I just being told, "Open Mommy, open!"

Since he has opened the box, they have been his absolute favourite go-to toy.

These figurines are incredibly detailed and each has a little accessory such as a cell phone or handbag. If your child is a fan of this show, they will absolutely love these toys! They are incredibly similar to the real characters on the show and most are able to articulate just like real cats.
