Rhebokskloof: Flatrock Festival

We were fortunate to be invited to the Flatrock Festival held over this past weekend at Rhebokskloof Wine Estate in Paarl. I hadn't ever been before and didn't really know what to expect, but it didn't disappoint and we would love to return to the estate, even if it isn't during the festival.

This beautiful wine farm has gone out of its way to be kid-friendly. From the shady picnic spots to imaginative play equipment, Nunu was in his element. Because it was the weekend of the festival, there were also pony rides, quad bikes trails and horse carriage rides, as well as a jumping castle, giant trampoline, soft play equipment and a waterslide.

The views are incredible, you can't help but flop down on the green grass and admire the gorgeous surrounds. We chose a spot in the cool shade near the children's games and the dam. It was perfect for these two stressed-out teachers, facing end of year burn out with all of the assessments, marking and looming examinations.

The picnic basket included a generous helping of tender beef, delicious salads and mouth-watering brownies. It also included a fabulous bottle of their renowned Flatrock wine. Nunu had his own little picnic, with a cheese roll, Lays, cucumber sticks with hummus and an ice-lolly. At R700 for the three of us to picnic, it wouldn't be your average family's hang out on the weekend, but more for a special occasion. There were other foods available, so you didn't necessarily have to have a picnic but could choose a more easy-on-the-pocket option.

Afterwards we were meant to go on a horse carriage ride through the vineyards, but by this stage our toddler was exhausted from all of the fun in the sun, so we opted for a quick little pony ride which he loved! It was only R20, so well worth it!

Below are the picnic options and prices.
