What a spoil! On Saturday 11th of May, I was invited to the Mom Blogger's Bosch Cooking Event. This was held in their stylishly designed Bosch Showroom in Bree Street, Cape Town. What a treat to spend the afternoon with such amazing moms, as well as being spoiled with culinary delights!
On arrival, we were served a refreshing glass of Vergin. The bottle itself is something to behold, with bright floral colours and a bold, easily identifiable logo. What I love most about this locally produced gin is it's start-out story. Like any proudly South African product, the story behind the brand is what piques my interest. I love that it is a husband and wife behind the business: that their product was developed because of their love for gin and their need for a healthy alternative. Vergin is non-alcoholic, sugar-free, no additives, artificial sweeteners, colours or flavourants.
Once we had introduced ourselves to those we hadn't met before (yasss, finally met Shante Hutton from Rose and Thorns - we have been flirting online for ages and it felt like it was our first date), we headed upstairs for a truly magnificent spread of cheeses and charcuterie. Delicious wines accompanied the easy conversation.
We were then introduced to some of the amazing Bosch applicances on offer. We have a Bosch gas stove at home and I truly believe that this is a brand that lives up to its name. It is a superior product compared to others similar in price currently offered on the South African market.
It was time. I was so anxious about the cooking experience because (a) I am not a great cook and (b) the memories of Home-Economics practicals still haunt me to this day. Amy from Love Amy and I took to the kitchen, armed with a glass of wine. We chose a station near the back of the room because we're "those kids". Both of us teachers, we set a terrible example for not talking and listening to the directions carefully. We relied heavily on our friends next to us, Sarah from The Fox Mom and Lerone from A Life with Kidz.
We made Salmon Papillote, a ridiculously decadent dish paired with a delectable butter, lemon and honey sauce. Surprisingly, Amy and I did not burn the kitchen down and our meal was completely edible, in fact (I don't want to toot my own horn here, but...) it was delicious! I love that the meal was paired with baby potatoes and fresh garden greens. We used baking paper to seal the parcel together and this kept the salmon juicy and tender.
The meal was cooked on the induction stove and oven. What an experience! I was convinced that gas was the quickest way to heat a pot... I was very wrong!
Afterwards, we were amazed by the decadent desserts served! A plate filled with little treats - mousse, brownie, ice-cream, macaroon, fresh fruit and more.
This cooking experience would make for an excellent team-builder or for a birthday party! Did you know, you are able to hire the space out for such events? You can also book this for your next date night! Visit their website to see what options are available. There are themed evenings such as Mexican night or Italian night. Such fun!
Classes start at R500. Included in this price are canapes, welcome drinks, all the ingredients needed for the meal, use of appliances, demo with a chef, plated dessert and more! What a great idea for a night out.
