Let's Picnic! Cape Point Vineyards

I honestly could not wait to get back from my picnic to write this review. What an amazing way to spend a summery Sunday afternoon. The actual venue is just so beautiful and relaxing. You couldn't want better surroundings - the beautiful mountains, the flowering fynbos, the dam, the ocean in the far background and a gorgeous, modern building which houses the restaurant, function hall and wine tasting.

We did not need to worry about a thing - a gentleman led us to the most stunning picnic spot directly in front of the water. An umbrella, blanket and the most comfortable pillows ever created (seriously, I will be invested in these come Christmas) were there waiting for us. We ordered a bottle of the Cape Point Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc and it was promptly brought to us in an ice bucket with two glasses.

It was then time to the explore the picnic basket and what a feast lay before us! The top layer was filled with delicious caramelized onions, liver and bacon pate, a selection of local meats and cheeses, ciabatta bread and more! We made the grave error of tucking into this layer a little too much, as we didn't realise that the second layer would be even tastier!

We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day weather-wise either. I brought my mom along for this review and she thoroughly enjoyed it! Nunu had so much fun watching the ducks on the water and crawling around on the soft grass. There is a low fence that separates the picnic site from the dam, but I would still recommend keeping a close eye on your little ones. The venue is pram friendly, you just have to be brave on those steep downhills though!

Onto layer two! We just made it... At this point we were already feeling quite full but needed to suck it up as there was a whole new tray to devour. The second layer consisted of two delicious salads, babotie rotis, fruit and koeksisters.

The afternoon was so relaxing and peaceful. You are given your own private picnic spot, far away from the bustling restaurant and wine tasting area. It is great to have your own area to enjoy! I would highly recommend this picnic and would not hesitate to go again! We had such a great time. So did Nunu! A standard picnic basket is R395 and serves 2. Wine is excluded. There is also a vegetarian option which is also R395. Kids Baskets are R65. Bookings can be made by emailing picnics@cape-point.com
